Dedication
To my dear friend, my first intellectual and emotional mother,
Eleni Kazantzakis,
who advised me that I was struggling in the sea of
life
because I was a poet
and to continue, to continue, to continue.
I dedicate this work to her memory; a memory that is electric and alive in me.
Eleni returned to me my Greek origins that had been stripped from me by xenophobia -
for is not a poet a foreigner in his own land?
She told me she would meet me in Constantinople so that I could search for my ancestors.
I never returned to Constantinople because I never left it.
I dedicate this work with the deepest love, to my mentor and teacher, Eleni, who remained inspirational to me for twenty three years. Now she is inspirational to me for all Eternity.
I forgot to write and tell you Eleni,
that my home cannot be found on any map.
What did your Ulysses write as his epitaph?
“I hope for nothing
I fear no one
I am free”. (Nikos Kazantzakis)
